Dr Voet introduce us to the role and benefits of exercise in Neuromuscular disorders and gives us clues to apply it in the right way to get positive effects.
Her doctoral thesis, awarded at the European level, showed that exercise can slow the progression of facioscapulohumeral dystrophy (FSHD). Currently she works as a rehabilitation physician and senior researcher at the department for neuromuscular diseases in rehabilitation center Klimmendaal, Arnhem, the Netherlands, and at the Muscle Center in the Radboud University Medical Center Nijmegen, the Netherlands. Voet is acknowledged as an international expert on FSHD, fatigue and on training in neuromuscular disorders. She is author of the Cochrane review “Strength training and aerobic exercise training for muscle disease”, one of the most often accessed reviews from the Cochrane Neuromuscular Disease group. Her current research projects focus on the implementation of evidence-based rehabilitation interventions and the measurement and treatment of muscle fatigue in neuromuscular diseases. She is head of a project which aims to develop a national network for neuromuscular diseases in the Netherlands
